Jack Tzekov was born in Sofia, Bulgaria. He studied at the National School of Art and at the Academy of Fine Arts in Sofia, Bulgaria, where he obtained an MFA degree in 1985. After graduating Jack actively pursued his art career and participated in numerous group exhibitions. In 1987 he was awarded Third Prize at the National Young Painters Competition in Sofia. At that time Jack was also working as a freelance illustrator for different Publishing houses, creating illustrations for children’s books, textbooks and encyclopedias. In 1990 Jack Tzekov moved to Canada and Ottawa became home for him and his family. In 1991 Jack had an exhibition at Gallery 101, together with his friend and colleague Dimitar Neshev (curator Daniel Sharp). In 1993 he participated in a group show at Agora Gallery, New York. With the fast development of personal computers in the 90's Jack adopted digital media and worked as a computer graphic artist for many leading high tech companies, such as Corel Corporation, Microsoft, Digital Vision and Getty Images. In 2011 Jack joined the Ottawa Watercolor Society and was awarded three jury awards in their 63rd and 69th Juried Exhibitions. Today Jack works in traditional media (painting) and also as a graphic artist, illustrator and comic book artist.
